New Vern Gosdin Box Set available

If you were a fan of country music in the 1980s you probably remember some of Vern Gosdin’s big hits like “If You’re Going To Do Me Wrong,” “Chisled In Stone,” Set ‘em Up Joe” and “This Ain’t My First Rodeo.” Gosdin’s musical career reaches back even farther than his hits.

If you want to trace the history of Americana through country-rock you have to draw a line right back to the Gosdin Brothers, Vern and brother Rex. In the mid-’60s they ran in the same bluegrass circles as Gram Parsons compatriot Chris Hillman and later recorded a fantastic album, Sounds of Goodbye, with ex-Byrd Gene Clark.

To celebrate over 40 years in the business Gosdin is releasing a 4-disc, 101-song boxed set. The set includes 14 songs from 1968 (including several from Sounds of Goodbye) and 11 unreleased songs. The remaining songs are rerecordings, but Gosdin hasn’t missed a step and is in wonderful voice making the majority of the rerecordings nearly indistinguishable from the originals.

Now, here’s the cool part: The physical set will be released in early November, but right now you can download the set of 101 songs on iTunes for $9.99 or Amazon’s MP3 store for $8.99.

I’m listening to it now and it’s the best $10 I’ve spent in a long time. For more info go to http://thevoiceofcountrymusic.com/
